ABOUT PPEA

PPEAThe Pennsylvania Palomino Exhibitors Association was incorporated in Carlisle PA in 1946 as a non-profit organization with the purpose of breeding and promoting the beautiful golden Palomino Horse. The original PPEA club featured members from all areas of Pennsylvania, and was one of the early Affiliate Palomino Associations chartered by the then fledgling Palomino Horse Breeders of America. The PPEA charter number with PHBA is Number 17.

PPEA was known nationwide as a very active club for many years. The group held many Palomino horse shows, including some at the beautiful Quentin Saddle Club grounds in Quentin PA, and even at the prestigious Devon Horse Show Grounds in Devon! In the early years, there were many active PPEA breeders of the "Pleasure Type" Palominos and Golden Saddlebreds. PPEA shows featured such colorful classes as Parade Horse and Palomino Pairs with the lively and showy Pleasure Type and Saddlebred horses. Interestingly, the "StockType" Palominos which are most prevalent now, were often in the minority in the early days. Over the years the Stock Type Palominos steadily began to gain popularity.

In the 1970's PPEA became inactive, around the time when our sister affiliate KPEA was getting underway in Pennsylvania. Why this happened, no one today can seem to remember, but for many years the PPEA charter and its mission lay dormant.

Beginning in early 1999 and on through the millennium year of 2000, a group of folks began working to get PPEA going strong again.

After reorganizing, PPEA requested that the Palomino Horse Breeders of America, Inc. reactivate our affiliate charter with them. At the PHBA Convention in San Antonio Texas in March 2001 were recommended for approval by the APA Committee & the general convention. In August 2001 we received official notice that our application was approved by the PHBA Executive Board and we are again an officially chartered Affiliate Palomino Association of PHBA. We appreciate everyone's support in this endeavor.

Our mission and the biggest goal of the "new" PPEA is to promote the Palomino Horse -- especially in areas such as Western and Central Pennsylvania where no other Palomino club holds any Palomino activities -- and to have fun doing it!

Things have actually come full circle as the "new" PPEA shows have begun to once again feature Golden Saddlebred and Pleasure Type classes in amongst our current widely popular Stock Type Palomino events. One of our PPEA members is even active as the National Secretary of GASHA, the Golden American Saddlebred Horse Association!

If you are a person who loves the Palomino Horse in all its many shades and types, and wants to have fun with others while promoting the Palomino, come ride with PPEA -- and share the fun with us!

Note: Details of the past get lost so easily... we need all the help we can get in piecing together the history of PPEA and the Palomino in Pennsylvania! If anyone out there has any information about the early years of PPEA, old pictures, programs, ribbons, "Palomino Horses Magazines" etc. that they would like to share, PLEASE let us know. We'd love to make a copy and feature what you have on our website!
